Primul Essential Mix al anului apartine unui om care a facut extrem de multe pentru muzica electronica din 2003 incoace.  Si anume a pus bazele si conduce Front Room Recordings, Made To Play si Loungin’ Recordings, are pana in prezent aproape 15 EP-uri, un Body Language mixat pentru Get Physical Music, un album propriu si colaborari cu nume mari ca Jamie Anderson (Idiotproof), Trevor Loveys (Machines Don’t Care, Speaker Junk, ex Switch), Jamie Odell (Audiomontage), Henrik Schwarz, Dave Taylor (Solid Groove), Joshua Harvey (Herve, Action Man) si, mai nou, Hot Chip.

Wow, ocupat rau Jesse Rose in ultima vreme si nici nu am mentionat de multitudinea de remix-uri pentru artisti ca Armand Van Helden, Hot Chip, Krafty Kuts, Pan-Pot, Simian Mobile Disco, Underworld, Ben Mono, Riton si multi altii. Cea mai recenta mostra a geniului londonezului stabilit in Berlin este colaborarea cu Hot Chip din care a iesit superba ‘Forget My Name’ aparuta luna trecuta la Dubsided Records. Sa nu uitam totusi de ‘Touch My Horn’, deasemenea prezenta pe recentul EP, dar si de mai vechea colaborare cu Herve din care a rezultat foarte dansabila ’Take It To The Club’. Presupun ca toata lumea isi aduce aminte de ‘You’re All Over My Head’ din 2006 care inca mai apare prin diverse seturi.

Riton: Essential Mix (20-09-2008)

Riton (pronuntat ree-ton) este pseudonimul cu care Henry Smithson s-a lansat acum 11 ani pe scena muzicii electronice. Cu toate ca este originar din Newcastle upon Tyne, Henry si-a ales drept alias corespondentul numelui sau in jargonul francez. Dupa numeroase EP-uri scoase, aproape in totalitate, la Grand Central Records (specializati in pe hip hop britanic underground), Riton formeaza in 2004 impreuna cu Ben Rymes Gucci Soundsystem. Impreuna scot EP-ul ‘Acarpenter’ la DFA si alte trei remix-uri pentru Lopazz, Tiefschwarz si LCD Soundsystem.

Totul pare calm si linistit pana cand, in luna iulie a acestui an, pe pagina Modular Recordings apare un nume nou care pur si simplu atrage atentia tuturor fanilor acestui label si a muzicii pe care o promoveaza. Cu un nume ca Eine Kleine Nacht Musik nici nu ai cum sa treci neobservat (in traducere inseamna “o mica serenada” si este titlul alternativ al Serenadei Nr.13 scrisa de Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart). Surpriza si mai mare a fost dezvaluirea artistului din spatele acestui nou proiect, nimeni altul decat Henry Smithson. Debutul la Modular UK o face cu un album intreg care ii poarta numele, contine 10 melodii care aduc un omagiu geniilor muzical e Kraftwerk a caror muzica s-a pierdut sau mai bine zis uitat mai bine de 20 de ani. In paralel, la Modular Australia, apare un EP ce contine piesele ‘La Serenissima’ si ‘Phantasie’.

Destula istorie pentru ziua de azi. Te invit sa asculti poate cel mai bun Essential Mix al acestui an (doar 1 saptamana vechime) pentru care Pete Tong l-a avut ca invitat pe subiectul articolului prezent, Riton.

Crookers: Essential Mix + Gatecrasher Live Set

Se pare ca cele mai bune Essential Mix-uri se difuzeaza fix atunci cand in Bucuresti au loc cele mai misto petreceri. Asa se face ca in timp ce toata lumea se destrabala prin cine stie ce club, la Radio 1 se auzea ceva la care nu m-as fi asteptat niciodata: un Essential Mix marca Crookers.

Da, ai citit bine, este vorba despre duo-ul italian Crookers prezent luna de luna pe electrocutare. Asemeni lui Switch (din care putem spune ca s-au inspirat cat de cat), Crookers au creat un stil cu totul aparte, propriu si original, atat de admirat incat a devenit la fel de copiat ca stilul celor de la Justice.

In orice caz ai parte de doua ore nebune in care vei trece fara sa iti dai seama prin hip hop, ghetto, fidget house, dubstep, italo si chiar techno. Nebunie curata fara indoiala!

MSTRKRFT: Essential Mix (24-05-2008)

Sambata, cand toata lumea sper ca se indrepta catre Facultatea de Arhitectura, la Radio 1 se difuza show-ul saptamanal Essential Mix. De aceasta data invitati au fost canadienii ALP si JFK, intr-un cuvant MSTRKRFT. Din pacate nu este vorba de un set live, ci de un studio mix, motivul (teribil de amuzant) invocat de cei doi fiind teama de ce ar putea asculta a doua zi (cei doi sunt aparent mari consumatori de alcool).

Vine pe electrocutare un pic mai tarziu decat pe alte blog-uri (weekend-urile ni le petrecem departe de casa si de acces la internet), dar mai bine acum decat mult mai tarziu, sau, in cel mai rau caz, niciodata.
